Niagara St Catharines & Toronto Railway 17 - first run
I recently finished building this S scale (1:64) model of NS&T freight motor 17. I started with a set of photo-etched brass panels for the cab, hoods, and deck, and added many commercial and scratch-built details (plus a gazillion miles of wire to represent all the exposed air piping). I'm really pleased with how this one turned out.

Traffic Lights - intersection mockup - HO scale
Просмотров 4282 месяца назад
I recently acquired four HO scale traffic lights and a controller from WeHonest, a firm that sells via eBay. I wanted to test them so quickly mocked up an intersection with styrene sheet and wood scraps (to provide below-street space for the controller). There's no audio with this video.
CNR SW1200s: RS vs RM (OMI)

I have been upgrading my fleet of HO scale CNR switchers. These were imported by Overland Models in 2004. They're smooth and reliable examples of the power I used to see working industries in Ontario's Niagara Peninsula. The 1368 is an SW1200RS with a 567 Prime Mover, while the 7310 is an SW1200RM - a remanufactured unit with a 645 Prime Mover.
Wisbech & Upwell Tram in 7mm
Просмотров 3142 месяца назад
In 2007, Skytrex released a 7mm (British 0 scale) model of an 0-4-0 steam tram engine for the Wisbech & Upwell Tramway. I acquired the model because, well, it's cool. I finally decided to do something with it - so I installed a Loksound DCC decoder, a Power Pack Mini, and two speakers. Then I added rope pulls to the bell, weathered it, painted up a tram crew from Modelu, and finished it with re...

This British Rail Class 37 is a 7mm model from Heljan and it's gorgeous. It needed an equally-wonderful soundtrack, so I got in touch with DC Kits in the UK and bought a Loksound 5 XL with high-bass speaker, pre-loaded with a Class 37 sound package by Legomanbiffo. Here's the first test after installing the decoder.

In 2017 I visited the Southern California Railway Museum and took a short clip of a working Wig Wag - a form of railway-road crossing protection, similar to the flashing lights with or without gates that have become common throughout North America. And many years before that, I picked four operating Wig Wag models at an O scale railway event in the Chicago area. I recently unpacked one of the O...
NST Car Barn

The Niagara St. Catharines & Toronto Railway had a central maintenance shop on Welland Avenue in St. Catharines. Here, two freight motors (18 and 19) head for the car barn. Then a third freight motor (8) hauls a short cut of cars out of the adjacent storage yard. I'm modelling the NS&T in S scale (1:64). I've been building brass kits in S scale for freight motors from the Niagara St. Catharines and Toronto Railway - an electric CNR subsidiary that ran in Ontario's Niagara Peninsula. As part of this, I'm installing Loksound V5 decoders and customizing the sound package. Here's a quick first run of my first install - in NS&T 19. Apologies for the poor focus - but it's really about the sound.

      Hi Greg: I didn't do the wiring. Charles supplied the wig wags already wired. I simply added an on-off toggle switch to the one you see in this video. Very good. I see you like realistic movement aswell. I'm a great believer in flywheels, as big as can fit. Sounds like you've got a Lok Programmer. I will be getting into using one of those hopefully this year sometime.

    • @TrevorMarshall
      @TrevorMarshall Год назад

      Thanks. Yes I have a LokProgrammer. It’s brilliant. These models have dual power trucks with NO flywheels. But the combination of programming an appropriate speed curve, some electronic momentum settings, and a decoder fitted with an ESU PowerPack (essentially an electronic flywheel) does the trick.

    • @richardarcher3435
      @richardarcher3435 Год назад

      @@TrevorMarshall There are two things I don't like about totally relying on electronic momentum. One, I've found it can sometimes result in very slight stuttering. That old pulse wave modulation. The other is that it can be switched off, and that is the one thing in modelling that I believe should not have the ability to be switched off. I know I'm an odd ball in thinking that. Haven't heard of the ESU PowerPack. I'll look it up. Anyway, keep up the good work and happy modelling.

    • @richardarcher3435

    Great job. I have always wanted to build a layout. Years ago when I was younger (I am 25 now) I had Ertl Farm country play sets with people figures and cows and etc. They were all 1:64 scale or S scale. I had always thought the buildings were too large and decided I would try to build a layout. Crazy me bought an Ho scale train set years ago also. I still want to build a layout and I no it is not best to mix scales but I still want to use the figures on my layout. I also had found some HO scale buildings that fit perfectly with the s scale figures. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you for any help you can give me!

    Nice! Any chance of you going full-SN? Also, don't forget the bell - that was the most used warning/signaling device, I remember being told. Bell ringing SN 654 in Rio Vista, California at the beginning of this clip from AlwaysTrainsHD here on YT ruclips.net/video/8mN_ax7sQTQ/видео.html (But I couldn't tell you if that's the original bell or _what_ bell sound that is)

    • @TrevorMarshall
      @TrevorMarshall 5 лет назад

      Hi Tristan: Thanks for the kind words. Did I forget the bell? It is equipped with a bell sound too. The horn is not exact - not compared to the one currently (pun intended) used on 654 at the museum. But I should be able to update this sound file when I find out more information. As for going full Sacramento Northern... well, that's always a possibility. Traction is in my blood, it seems, although I've never attempted modelling it. And the SN is an obvious influence on Bob Hegge's Crooked Mountain Lines - and Hegge's CML, in turn, was a big influence on me. Before making such a commitment, I would have to find suitable cabooses for my two SN electrics. Mullet River Model Works made a kit in O scale, while I'm told the D&RGW wood caboose imported by PFM is a good (possibly perfect) stand-in. Cheers!
